Teeth Whitening: The Pros And Cons

A brighter and healthy smile is something that everybody wants. You can improve the way you smile with the help of the teeth whitening tips. The teeth bleaching products, which are available over the counter, are mostly used by the people. Teeth whitening bleaching kits are quite popular as they are affordable and user friendly. A whitening gel along with a mouthpiece tray always comes with the teeth bleaching kit

Before placing the mouthpiece tray inside your mouth, you have to put the whitening gel on it. The tray needs to be left for at least thirty minutes. You can achieve a satisfactory result only if you continue this for at least three to four years.

However, there are few disadvantages related to the usage of these teeth bleaching kits too. The hydrogen peroxide, which is an integral part of the whitening gel is often damages the gum. As the tray comes in a standard size, it does not fit everybody properly. You cannot use it on crowns, dentures and jackets and most importantly most of these products are not at all approved by the American Dental Association.

You can even go for the laser teeth whitening system to get rid of all the stains on your teeth. Under this method of treatment, a whitening gel recommended by a licensed dentist is applied on the teeth. This gel contains high amount of hydrogen peroxide than found in the over-the-counter whitening product. A mouthpiece tray is customized according to the need of the patient. Before the tray is put inside the mouth, the whitening gel is applied on it and then it is kept for at least thirty minutes. Then the dentist uses his laser to fasten the entire procedure. The reaction between the whitening gel and the laser takes place inside the mouth. Though this method helps to make the teeth six shades lighter, yet it comes with few demerits. This method uses high amount of hydrogen peroxide and is too expensive and costs between $600 and $1000 per setting. With regular laser treatment, the enamel of the teeth gets damaged. This method works only on real teeth and not on dentures or crowns.

You can even get an idea of the usage of the whitening toothpastes from these tips. You can get these toothpastes from almost anywhere and these are quite safe to use. As they contain abrasive ingredients, you have to be very gentle while brushing your teeth. If you are careless, you can damage the enamel of your teeth, which may further cause teeth sensitivity.

I would like to share few other simple teeth whitening tips with you so that you can try them at home. You can remove stains from your teeth by using a paste made of a mixture of lemon juice and salt. Application of powdered orange peel along with dried bay leaves has often been very effective. You can even try this – take an orange peel and rub it on the teeth. It will definitely reduce the stains.

No matter what you try, it is always advisable to take an opinion from a licensed dentist.
